Randy Orton Injured... Will Miss Wrestlemania

At the Smackdown taping on Tuesday, in a falls count anywhere match, Wade Barrett threw Randy Orton down a flight of stairs. It was announced the next day that Randy Orton would be out of action for 6 months because of a torn disk in his back. This means that Randy Orton will have to miss the Royal Rumble and even Wrestlemania.

However, it's possible that Randy Orton's back injury didn't actually happen on Tuesday but rather on the December 19th episode of Raw. Since then Randy Orton has been essentially put on light duty. He has been working mid-card matches and not taking any serious bumps.

It was also announced that Sheamus will be taking Orton's place in SmackDown live events this week against Barrett. WWE has also moved Primo and Epico vs. Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston to the SmackDown tour to help solidify the line-ups with Randy Orton out of action.

Wade Barrett tweeted the following last night regarding Randy Orton's injury: "Look, what happened at the taping was tragic. However, there are inherent risks in our profession. Play with fire, you get burned."

WWE will be offering refunds at SmackDown live events to anyone who wants them, since Orton won't be appearing.

WWE.com reported Thursday that company physician Dr. Michael Sampson examined Randy Orton and said he suffered a herniated disc on the L4-L5 level on the left side, which has resulted in pain and weakness down his leg.

"He's going to need some time off for rehab, anti-inflammatory medications and physical therapy," said Dr. Sampson.
