I received an interesting comment on one of my posts recently stating that the Undertaker would be returning at the Royal Rumble this month. I assumed he would not be back until the very last minute as usual, but it would be good since this is his last year if he made as many appearances before Wrestlemania as possible.
Everyone is speculating about who will get to face the Undertaker in his final Wrestlemania match when he goes 20-0. This seems to be the most sought after spot in wrestling history. The list of wrestlers bidding for this opportunity is really a who's who of wrestling today. However, some big names you might expect to be interested have not made any mention of it, at least not publicly. Brock Lesnar has said in interviews that he would love to return to Wrestlemania and face the Undertaker in his last match. However, he is still under contract with the UFC and I don't think the WWE would give such an important spot to someone that quit on them 10 years ago.
I think you can ignore all the rumours about the returns of guys like Edge, Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle, Bobby Lashley, or any other former WWE stars. If Chris Jericho returns I think it will be to face CM Punk. I wouldn't mind seeing Batista return, the WWE hasn't been the same since he left, and he had an amazing feud with the Undertaker. However, like I said I really don't think this spot will go to anyone that has quit on the company.
The ultimate dream match that I think every wrestling fan has always wanted to see is the Undertaker vs Sting. That would be amazing. However, Sting is currently running TNA. Though he is always said to only be under short term contracts so he could possibly be a free agent before Wrestlemania. But he has turned down so many opportunities to go to the WWE that I think even if he agreed now the WWE would turn him down now. Besides, why would Sting sell out and finally join the WWE and leave TNA just to have one match in the WWE at Wrestlemania and lose? I could see him making that big of a move if he was going to get to end the streak of the Undertaker, but I wouldn't do it just to lose!
A match I would really like to see, well there are two great opponents I think could stand toe to toe with the Deadman. They are Kane and the Big Show. The Big Show never really got his chance to have a major one on one match with the Undertaker. Their match at Wrestlemania 19 was screwed up when it was turned into a Tag-Team match. So the Undertaker won the match but he never beat the Big Show. I think they have unfinished business. I doubt the Undertaker could Tombstone or even Chokeslam the Big Show, but he could obviously lock the Big Show in the Hell's Gate submission hold and either make the Big Show tap out or pass out. I think that would be an epic final match. The other obvious choice is the Undertaker's brother Kane. This has always been the Undertaker's greatest rivalry and it would be the best way to end the Taker's streak. Maybe Kane could even win the match!
Personally I don't really want to see Triple H face the Undertaker again. That will mean that 3 of Taker's 20 wins at Wrestlemania were against Tripe H. He is hogging all the spotlight always taking the spot against Taker. We have seen them fight, they are good matches, but we've seen all they can do together. It's time to give someone else a turn. Shawn Micheals as the special referee won't add enough to make this match any better than the others. I think they should try a new direction.
Face it, this is the greatest build up to any wrestling match in history. Everyone in the world will be watching this match to see how the Undertaker ends his career and who he ends it with will be remembered forever. Why not share that spotlight with as many wrestlers as possible. Why not go all out and make it as huge as possible. I say bring back everyone that has ever faced the Undertaker at Wrestlemania. Have them all around the ring. You could make it a lumberjack match. Bring out Paul and the casket and the urn. Lower down the Hell In The Cell. Don't hold anything back.
Why not have the Undertaker run the gauntlet? Have the Undertaker come out and face his brother Kane. Bring back Paul. Make it a casket match. Have Taker put Kane in the casket one last time. Then have the Big Show come out and challenge the Undertaker, and when Taker accepts, have the Hell In The Cell suddenly lower down trapping the Big Show inside with Taker, who will eventually make him tap out in the Hell's Gate. But as the Cell raises back up, that is when the shock heard round the world will happen... that is when Sting's music will hit and the crowd will explode. Taker has already had 2 grueling matches and is barley able to stand, and Sting is walking down to the ring to finally end the streak. He could hit him with the Stinger Splash, the Scorpion Death Drop, and he could lock him into the Scorpion Death Lock. Taker should hit Sting with everything he has, Old School, Chokeslam, Last Ride, Tombstone, and Hell's Gate. I would be tempted to say have Sting win the match because no one, not even the Undertaker goes out a winner. Everyone loses their last match. The streak must end, or fans will always expect Taker to come back and have another match. It must end!
Do whatever you have to do. All the former opponents could run in. Triple H could hit Taker with the Pedigree. Shawn Micheals could hit him with Sweet Chin Music. But ultimately, I think Sting needs to be the one to end it. It fits. If the WWE can't get Sting, I think it has to be Kane. They are the only ones that really seem like the suitable ones to end it.
